St. Joseph's Addiction Treatment & Recovery Centers and Fieldstone Foundation Welcome New Board Members
St. Joseph’s Addiction Treatment & Recovery Centers and Fieldstone Foundation, both proud affiliates of the Citizen Advocates Network, are pleased to announce the addition of seven new members to their respective boards of directors.
These appointments bring a wealth of leadership experience, professional expertise and community commitment to guide both organizations in advancing their missions throughout the region.

St. Joseph’s is proud to welcome Carrie Reardon, Wouter Rietsema, M.D. and Margaret M. Surowka to its board of directors, joining Chair Marc Gitlitz and Treasurer Dallas Sutton.

Ms. Reardon, Chief Nursing Officer at Adirondack Health, brings nearly 20 years of nursing leadership and deep ties to the Saranac Lake community. In her role as a healthcare provider and leader, she has experienced firsthand the collaboration between Adirondack Health and St. Joseph’s to ensure patients receive the care and support they need. A passionate advocate for recovery, she is committed to improving access to care and building stronger connections between acute and rehabilitative services.
Dr. Rietsema is a physician executive and life and leadership coach with more than 30 years of experience in senior roles at UVM Health Network - Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, including Chief Medical Officer and Chief Information Officer, and as Chief Medical Officer of Adirondacks Accountable Care Organization. A longtime advocate for mission-driven care, his commitment to recovery is also deeply personal through his family’s experience with long-term recovery. Together, they have witnessed both the challenges and the transformative power of treatment and recovery.
Ms. Surowka, a partner at Barclay Damon LLP in Albany, has more than three decades of legal expertise. She co-leads the firm’s Healthcare and Health & Human Services Providers Teams, representing agencies, facilities and individual providers. She is also deeply engaged in helping professionals in recovery regain their licenses. Ms. Surowka is an active community leader, serving on the boards of Hubbard Hall Center for the Arts and the National Society of Dental Practitioners.
Fieldstone Foundation
Fieldstone Foundation, the charitable partner of Citizen Advocates and St. Joseph’s, has appointed Daniel E. Clark, Joe Colarusso, Nicole Laurin and Julia C. Race to its board, where they join Chair Felix Tam and Treasurer Nicholas Eells.

Mr. Clark, a lifelong Malone resident and longtime owner of King-Clark Insurance and North Country Realty, brings 50 years of business leadership and a deep history of board service—including 40 years with UVM Health Network - Alice Hyde Medical Center, where he served as board chair. He has also served on the boards of Healthcare Board of Trustees in Albany, OneWorkForce, MEDCO and the Malone Golf Club, demonstrating his deep commitment to community leadership and healthcare oversight.
Mr. Colarusso, former CEO of Sunmount Developmental Disabilities Service Office, brings a lifetime of support to people with developmental disabilities across Northern New York. Now retired, he has served as a member of the National Ski Patrol at Titus Mountain and was active in church leadership. Mr. Colarusso continues to serve the community and beyond through martial arts instruction, management consultation and as a member and Board Officer of the 1 World Foundation.
Ms. Laurin, CEO of the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity (JCEO) of Clinton and Franklin Counties, oversees a wide network of programs addressing community needs, and her prior leadership of the Clinton County Backpack Program brings vital knowledge and expertise. Ms. Laurin currently serves on the boards for the Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County and the New York State Community Action Association and is a past board member and President for the Plattsburgh Rotary Club.
Ms. Race, Director of Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers Recruitment at Rochester Regional Health, St. Lawrence Region, is an experienced healthcare leader with a strong background in philanthropy and community development. She currently serves on the board of the Adirondack Community Foundation and began her career in advertising in Boston and New York City.
Together, the newly appointed board members reflect the core values of St. Joseph’s and Fieldstone Foundation—compassion, leadership and service. Their combined knowledge and experience will help both organizations expand their impact, forge stronger community partnerships and improve the lives of individuals and families throughout the region.
