Jail Program

People often find their way to St. Joseph’s through the help of a caring friend or family member. Sometimes, though, individuals are so deep in denial about their substance abuse and overwhelmed by their everyday lives, they put themselves and their communities at risk.

When people break the law by driving while intoxicated, possessing drugs, or committing other crimes while under the influence, St. Joseph’s Addiction Treatment & Recovery Centers is there to help.

We understand that life can be a tremendous challenge. Going to school, managing work and a family, or just trying to make ends meet can be overwhelming and stressful. For these reasons, St. Joseph’s has established recovery programs in the Essex and Franklin County jails to give help and hope to the people incarcerated there.

We are proud to provide the same level of professional services at these regional county jails as we offer inpatient residents at our main Saranac Lake campus. We hold small group therapy sessions and meet individually with inmates on a daily basis. We also work with individuals to make their transitions back into the community a positive and supportive experience. Our staff at the jails also play an important role with the local court judicial system, interacting with the District Attorneys, public defenders, and others in a collaborative State-wide effort called “Drug Court.” For a person struggling with substance abuse, Drug Court is an alternative to incarceration. The Court’s goal is to closely monitor a person’s daily recovery efforts and provide the personal support and guidance each needs to rebuild his or her life.

We believe our jail programs will have an ongoing and long-term positive impact in the Adirondack and North Country regions. We are committed to the value of social responsibility and individual autonomy. We believe that all people – regardless of their difficult circumstances or challenging life experiences – have the potential to grow and change.

St. Joseph’s programs in the Essex and Franklin County jails are opportunities for people to begin to do just that.
