15 male residents recently participated in a two-hour group session during which they made beaded bracelets for themselves, or for a loved one, as well as a bracelet to donate to the Miles for Recovery Project.
Miles for Recovery project’s goal is to raise $2019 by walking/running 2019 miles this year. All proceeds will benefit the Pay It Forward scholarship fund that will help future clients of St. Joseph’s who are in need of care but cannot afford treatment.
We will also hold a 5K Color Run/Walk for Recovery on July 14th, and a Mental Health Awareness Hike up Mt. Baker on May 26th.
All in the St. Joseph’s family are invited to participate.
The clients were appreciative of the opportunity to partake in giving back as evidenced by statements as, “Thank you for letting us be a part of this”, and “I would like to donate all bracelets that I made”, and “I used to bead (make bracelets) with my mom”.
Several staff members contributed to the gathering, including UR Department staff Mya Ramierez, Andrea Hudak, and Jennifer Rogers, while Richard Whitney from PAT helped coordinate the details, and Dietary provided residents with snacks (cookies, fruit) and decaf tea and coffee.
We hope to lead another session with female residents this upcoming weekend and expand our efforts to the Veterans Program, our Outpatient sites, and Supportive Housing Facilities.
