St. Joseph's was founded by the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement who live a philosophy of "Charism" which includes the ideal that no one who desires help is ever turned away. While we are now an independent ministry of the Friars, we continue to uphold this venerable heritage by our commitment to those on society's margins.
In America today approximately 47 million people are without health insurance. This significant segment of our country's population either earns too much to qualify for Medicaid, or they do not earn enough to be able to afford private insurance. This new, and growing, population includes men, women, children, and veterans, those working multiple jobs, and those nearing the traditional retirement age who have worked all of their lives. These are the working poor of our country.
To meet the needs of the men and women in this population who arrive at St. Joseph's with the desire to live sober, whole, joyful lives, we provide charity care for up to a dozen residents each year. Providing these services is the right thing to do; ensuring treatment is part of our fabric.
To ensure that all who desire to live lives free of addiction receive the care they need, we ask that you consider making a gift to St. Joseph's 2011 Gratitude Fund.
